What is COR?
A Certificate of Recognition (COR) confirms your health and safety management system meets a provincial standard. COR is for employers with 10 or more workers; SECOR covers up to 10. Voluntary under Alberta OHS — employers pursue it for contracts and WCB rebates. Your certifying partner — ACSA, Energy Safety Canada, AASP, MHSA, AMTA, AMHSA, or another Alberta-approved partner — issues the certificate after you pass an external audit (80% overall, 50% per element). Safety Ahead prepares you — we don't issue the certificate.

Choose a Certifying Partner
Alberta authorises a set of Certifying Partners to administer COR — ACSA, Energy Safety Canada, AASP, MHSA, AMTA, AMHSA and others. Your industry determines which one applies to you.

Implement a health and safety management system
Build a system that meets the provincial standard and actually reflects how your crews work. Alberta notes that starting without an existing system can take 12 months or more.

Pass an audit
Employers with 10 or more workers need an external audit; smaller employers can self-assess under SECOR. You need 80% overall and at least 50% on every element.

Your Certifying Partner issues the certificate
After a passing audit, your Certifying Partner requests issuance from the Government of Alberta. Safety Ahead prepares you for this — we do not issue the certificate.

How much does COR certification cost in Alberta?
There is no single price, and anyone quoting one before seeing your program is guessing. What follows is the honest band — from a self-directed kit through a full build with senior advisors on your sites. Where you land depends on where you are starting from.
The starter kit: forms, logbooks, and program structure so you are not building from a blank page. This is a foundation, not certification — you do the work, and you still need an external audit through your certifying partner to hold COR.
You already have a program and need specific gaps closed, an internal audit facilitated, or your team prepared for external audit week. Priced to the scope after we see where you actually stand.
Built from scratch or rebuilt, with senior advisors on your sites, supervisor coaching, records aligned to field practice, and the external audit organized. The upper end reflects company size, number of sites, crew count, and how much of the system exists today.
